FORT DE CONDE

Remains full of history                             at 38 min - 46 km

Located on a high point near the Chemin des Dames, Fort Conde was built between 1877 and 1882. This monument is part of the defense of France devised by General Sere de Rivieres after the defeat of 1870. It follows the tradition of the French fortification Vauban Maginot.
In an impressive size (5 hectares intramural), the Fort looks like a pentagon camouflaged under 3 meters of earth and vegetation. Entirely built in stone, it combines a functional architecture for a real aesthetic concern.

The tour starts with the presentation of the defense system of France before and after the defeat of 1870. It continues with the discovery of the site architecture, defense agencies, daily life of soldiers, etc..
